Project Build-a-Human

suddenly heading in a whole new direction

Notes &

I’m closing this blog.

From now on I’ll post about Leah over on the main blog because I no longer feel like my feelings and experiences with her are separate from the rest of my life. So thank you for coming along as I processed her appearance in my world.

See you over there!

Leah has decided that one nap per day is fine, only she’ll sleep longer if she’s sitting in my lap, latched on. I don’t understand it, but you know, whatever. She’s also started staying awake until around 11:00 - 12:00 each night, and this morning she slept until 10:30.
I don’t get it. Should I be trying to get her to sleep earlier? How ‘bad mom’ is it that I don’t care when she sleeps?

We spend a lot (a lot) of time like this, and I had her here on my lap and thought ahead thirteen years and realized I would need proof.

We went down the street to the convenience store/ice cream shop/barber shop/storage place to rent a storage unit for my sister’s stuff. It’s about 57ºf today so I put Leah in a long-sleeved shirt, pants and socks. Her first fall outfit.
My mom felt the need to explain to the clerks that she was in fact a girl because I had neglected to put (gasp) an indicator on her.
But I don’t have an orange bow, so whatever, right?

You guys I had to stop myself from posting every single one of these you have no idea.

No slimy foods

That means anything with any moisture cut up small enough for you to eat without choking is out. Most fruit and some veggies…out. You will only eat these things if they’re not slimy, so I can hand you a big chunk of banana and you’ll bite into it and I have to sit there and watch you like a hawk to make sure you don’t bite off too much.

I assume this is going to continue until you’ve figured out spoons.

You’ll be fine.

Ten Months
The other day at the doctors office someone told me I needed to change your diet. I was pretty irritated that she felt the need to be so rude until I realized that was the first time it had happened. So I guess I’m pretty lucky. She said I needed to maybe use 1% milk instead of whole milk and I just said “oh she’s still nursing” instead of what I was thinking. You should be very proud.
Still, you are expanding your diet. And you’re learning how to eat, which is a really important life lesson. You’ve got eight teeth and that’s practically a whole mouthful so pretty soon I’m going to let you eat a whole steak. And then I’ll call that lady from the doctor’s office.
You are so determined and independent and I know I’m going to have learn to think and reason with you instead of just being firm. Of course firm has its place but you tend to just set your teeth and growl at me and then wait until I let you do it or distract you from it. You certainly know what you want and so far we haven’t had any big problems with me not being able to figure out where you’re going.
I think we make a pretty good team, kid.
